John D. Koethe, MD, FACP
Dr. Koethe received his medical degree from Temple
University School of Medicine in 1982, graduating with honors.
He completed his residency at the University of Virginia Medical
Center in Charlottesville, VA. In 1988 he completed his
Fellowship in Nephrology at the Hospital of the University of
Pennsylvania. In 1985 he became certified by the American Board
of Internal Medicine and in 1988 he became certified in the
subspecialty of Nephrology. Dr. Koethe joined the Section on
Renal Diseases and Hypertension at Pennsylvania Hospital in 1989
joining Pennsylvania Nephrology Associates at that time. He has
been practicing nephrology at both Pennsylvania Hospital and
Pennsylvania Nephrology Associates since then.
Dr. Koethe serves on
numerous committees at Pennsylvania Hospital including the
Nutrition Support Committee, Medical Records Committee,
Information Systems Executive Steering Committee and the
Performance Improvement Committee. He teaches medical
residents and students at Pennsylvania Hospital as well as
lectures to other health care professionals. He has contributed to peer-reviewed
clinical research publications and has authored several research
papers committed to the ongoing improvement of nephrological
care. Dr. Koethe has been awarded Philadelphia Magazine’s Top
Doc award and has received the Edward Viner Teaching Award.
